“GERB’s structures are mobilized, they are working and we expect good results of the upcoming elections”, National Assembly chairwoman Tsveta Karayancheva said at a briefing in Varna. “August is a month for holidays. It’s good that people can afford longer vacations, which shows that the economy and the purchasing power of Bulgarians are increasing”, she added.
In connection with President Rumen Radev’s attacks, Tsveta Karayancheva pointed out that the head of state is clearly not well informed. “Yesterday the chairwoman of the European Commission was in Bulgaria and said that the country is developing very well, it is growing economically. I do not know if the President is informed only by his party television and BSP because he speaks as a back vocal of Korneliya Ninova”, she noted.
“The election campaigns in Bulgaria are extremely sharp, with a very black PR, but we will remain true to ourselves and continue to work as we have done so far, to tell what we have done and what we can do in the future, which is good for Bulgaria”, explained the chairwoman of Parliament. She stressed that GERB is working on preparing the platform for the upcoming local elections in the fall and that it will be formalized soon.
“I expect a very dynamic parliamentary session, given that the start of the election campaign almost coincides with the beginning of the parliamentary session. There will be much stronger political debate because this is an opportunity for the MPs to deliver political messages”, she commented. “As for the forthcoming parliamentary session, you know that we have the 18th veto from the President, which is to be considered next week. The autumn session is also the budget session, which is the most important law of the state”, she said, noting the emphasis on the new parliamentary season.
Asked whether legal changes are being envisaged in criminal proceedings against people charged with murder and more severe penalties for guilty pleas, she announced that there would be a debate on the subject.
