Improving the state of the road network by building and maintaining modern and safe infrastructure is a government priority. This is one of the measures taken by the MRDPW to reduce the number of people killed in road accidents. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Eng. Valentin Yovev, MRD reported.
He participated in the awards ceremony of experts and specialists who contributed to the improvement of the road infrastructure safety in the country. It is organized for the ninth time by Association “Bulgarian Branch Association Road Safety”. The main focus of the event is the reduction of road accidents and a call to work better to reduce the number of road deaths.
“The completion of the Hemus and Struma highways was signed, the contract for the modernization of the road between Kalotina and Dragoman checkpoints was signed, procedures for stretches of the road between Vidin and Botevgrad were underway. Major roads are being rehabilitated between the major cities of the country, but the smaller ones are not forgotten, “said the deputy regional minister. He informed that there are currently contracts under Operational Program “Growing Regions 2014-2020” for the rehabilitation of 224 km of second-class roads and 239 km of third-class roads. In addition, over BGN 200 mln from the state budget is being worked on improving another 36 road sites. Open procedures worth more than BGN 10 million under the INTERREG V-A Romania – Bulgaria 2014-2020 Program will be announced.
“We also provide intelligent traffic management systems that will provide traffic information in real time for travelers,” Eng. Yovev added. Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works also drew attention to the behavior of road drivers and stressed that work should also be done to change thinking.
