“We cannot unconditionally support Northern Macedonia on its way to the EU”, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov said in a statement after the consultative meeting on “Review of bilateral relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia in the context of the results of the work of the Joint Multidisciplinary Expert Committee on Historical and Educational Affairs and the Macedonia’s expected invitation to join the EU”.
“We must lay down clear conditions in the process itself for the scheduling of the intergovernmental conference to have clear and definite results. I hope that what we will do will be a very clear signal to the governing party in Skopje. These people make fun of us and make time playing us. The last commission meeting is scheduled for the 15th – one day before the Brussels ministers and leaders meet to make a decision”, he added.
It became clear that at the meeting it was commented on that the best option for Bulgaria is to have no separation between Albania and Macedonia on their path to EU membership. “These are two countries in the region for which Bulgaria has stated clear political intentions to help with their future NATO and EU membership”, Karakachanov said.
